Work Strides– This career readiness workshop empowers people to find their strengths, interests, aptitudes and skills. Through assessments, class exercises and research, participants identify the career goals that best suit them. Positive action plans are created to reach these goals. Participants learn to navigate the DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation) and DSB (Department of Services for the Blind) services successfully and ensure that they are in the “right place at the right time”. Our trainers use positive motivation techniques to help class participants move forward in their lives. Classes offered monthly. Job Club –Provides a supportive, monitored group environment to motivate job seekers while they complete the tough task of obtaining employment. Customers learn how to tailor a resume and cover letter, application techniques to overcome gaps in work history and the keys of networking. They will master a 30 second commercial to market their skills. In vivo exercises are used to practice interview questions. We want to “teach people to fish rather than giving them fish”. Job Development - Our job developers assist job seekers in locating, securing and obtaining employment that fits their skills, interests and abilities. Our job developers use networking and the clients’ best interests to find the right employment.
Job Retention - Job retention is used to assist customers in keeping their employment. Sometimes that will be mental health coaching, learning new tasks or 1:1 assistance on the job, to help the customer maintain their employment. Job retention services fade as the customer gains confidence and skills.
Intensive Training Services - Means one-on-one job skills training and support provided at the supported employment job site that enables the Client to be successful.
Community Based Assessments - Job developers can assist customers in finding assessment sights to discover if the type of work they are seeking fits their skills, interests and abilities. These assessments may turn into employment sites, but that is not typical. They are typically for 20 days and assess the customers’ skills in employment.
Independent Living Services - Independent Living Evaluations assist customers and their counselors to determine what community services and resources they need in order to build their foundation for being successful in employment. IL Services can include assistance in training or finding needed resources in: residential, disability, communication, mobility, financial issues, home management, social skills, support systems, self care, education and employment.
Benefit Planning—Jeff Jackson – CWIC certified. Worked for Social Security for 26 years. He helps customers understand the effect of earned income on Social Security benefits such as SSI and SSDI as well as other benefits or services someone might use, including food assistance, TANF, or subsidized housing. He can also assist people with applications for SSI/SSDI and PASS Plans.
Individual Counseling—Career consulting, individual counseling and life coaching services provided by Jody Swearingen M. Ed, CRC, LMHC. Specializes in motivational interviewing techniques to help people find their value, work through their concerns and relationship issues and move towards their ultimate goals. Individual appointments available.
